School Uniform

Dress

  • The school endeavors to inculcate habits of cleanliness and neatness, and parents are requested, not only in the interest of their children and themselves, but also in the interest of the school, to see that their children are always clean and neatly dressed for school, for going out in the evening or at any other time to public places or public functions.

  • The school discourages Khaki clothing as it hides dirt and dirty playing.

  • The school uniform consists of a white shirt and shorts (white trousers in classes 7 to 10), a school belt and tie, white or maroon socks and lace up black shoes.

  • Boys are not permitted to attend school if they are improperly dressed.

  • At week ends and on holidays and at all other times outside class and games routine hours, borders wear house colored games shirts or "blues and greys" and games shoes while in the school compound.

  • Boarders on week end and other temporary leave from school are expected to maintain the reputation and traditions of the school, abiding strictly by the regular rules of the school with regard to dress and discipline.

  • It is important that the boys of Std. VIII and below obtain school pullovers; senior boys may have blazers; these may be obtained on payment from The Imperial Hosiery Stores or Pin-A-Kin Garments or Kiddies Centre. Boys are not permitted to wear pullovers or blazers of other colors during school.

Special Notes On Dress

  • Over 135 years old, this school clings to tradition in its School Uniform; unconventional dress usually leads to unconventional behavior.

  • Please note that only Stds. 8, 9 & 10 are permitted to wear long trousers. Belts worn lower than the narrowest portion of the waist and "drainpipes", baggy pants and flared trousers are strictly prohibited, as are also short shorts. Loops for belts must be large enough for the school belt to fit in. Trousers must be not less than 14" and not more than 16" at the lowest point. Tightly tailored trousers are not permitted.

  • Turbans from std. 8 upwards are compulsory for Sikh boys. For the sake of uniformity, Sikh boys are required to wear maroon turbans with yellow under turbans.

  • Only maroon colored pullovers may be worn in school.

  • In the case of boarders, prohibited clothes will be packed and sent home; day scholars will be excused from attending school and will be marked absent for the day.

  • Unconventional greasy hair styles are strictly not permitted. Hair must be kept short.

  • If a boy shaves, he must attend school each day with a clean shaven face, and even a single day's stubble will not be permitted.

  • It may be explained that these curbs are to stamp out anti-social tendencies, and your valued co-operation in this important matter of dress is solicited.

  • Day scholars' parents are required to see that outside school, their boys dress cleanly, neatly and strictly in accordance with convention.

  • Day boys or boarders dressing unconventionally may be required to leave the school.
