Language Development and Learning

We place a special emphasis on language development in Study Hall, Because we believe that it plays a central role in learning. Children use language to construct the meanings, and to organize a coherent picture of reality out of the welter of experience that they encounter, in order to gain some measure of control over it. Language is a system of meaning or a symbol system which which represents meanings. In order to make any sense of our experience, we must render it meaningful and we do so by symbolizing it. Language is a system-based which has social acceptance and is the common currency used by us to communicate each other. It is with language that we talk or refer to the world, to each other and make sense of it ourselves. Language has a profound relationship with reality and with thought. We always think with language and though we may encounter and experience the world directly, it only becomes meaningful to us once we have symbolized it in some language. Language development thus has a direct relationship with the development of thought as philosophers and psychologists like Vygotsky and Piaget tell us. |

It is one of our main aims to help our children gain increasing control over languages we believe that it is a powerful tool with which we live our lives and education consists of empowering children with all possible tools. We make a special effort to develop in our children, an independent, creative expression in oral and written language (English & Hindi), because we firmly believe that in doing so we are developing imaginative, independent, creative minds, capable of dealing with their lives and acting upon the social world, imaginatively, autonomously and creatively. We encourage children and help them to give free expression to their ideas, thoughts, feelings, queries and fantasies in both written and spoken language. As children become increasingly articulate and learn to express themselves clearly and effectively, they gain increasing control over their own thought process, become more effective communicators and gain a sounder understanding of their social and personal worlds. |
